Technical Analysis of Wallet Drainers on EVM Solana XRP and TRON Wallet drainers are not magic. They rely on specific, documented mechanics within different blockchain architectures. If you understand the technical exploit, you understand exactly how to block it. Let’s break down how drainers operate on EVM networks, Solana, XRP, and TRON, and how you can shut them down. EVM (Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum) The core exploit here revolves around token approvals. The ERC-20 standard requires a user to approve a smart contract before that contract can move tokens. Drainers trick you into calling `approve()` or `setApprovalForAll()` (for NFTs), often targeting a malicious contract address. Recently, they’ve abused Permit2, an off-chain signature standard that allows gasless approvals. You sign a message, and the attacker submits it, draining your tokens instantly. The fix: You have to revoke old approvals. Use Revoke.cash. If a drainer compromises a protocol you approved three years ago, they can drain you today. And stop signing unreadable off-chain messages. If a dApp asks for a signature instead of a standard transaction, and you don’t fully understand why, decline it. Solana Solana doesn’t use the EVM approval model. Instead, drainers exploit Versioned Transactions and the `SystemProgram.transfer` instruction. Because Solana allows multiple instructions to be packed into one transaction, a drainer will hide a massive SOL transfer alongside a seemingly innocent action (like minting an NFT). They also use durable nonces to bypass time-limits on transactions, allowing them to execute your signed transaction whenever they want. The fix: Simulation is everything on Solana. Modern Solana wallets (like Phantom or Backpack) simulate the exact balance changes before you sign. If the simulation shows your SOL balance decreasing when it shouldn't, reject it. Furthermore, keep your main holdings in a wallet that never interacts with random dApps.
